A Classic Heartbreak

The first thing I'm gonna do when I finally get my first electric guitar is learn to play the guitar section of the song "I Wish It Would Rain Down" by Phil Collins, in which Eric Clapton played the guitar part.

Learn and learn til I become pretty much like this:

God! This video is so amazing it reminds me of the very first time I saw Alejandro Manzano's performance on Youtube covering Fleetwood Mac's Landslide--I was amazed. Just like with this one. You see a performance, and when you see the one that's really good, you know it touches you, and you just wanna cry.

Back to the song itself, I Wish It Would Rain Down is the most intense heartbreak song I've ever heard; the intensity comes from the guitar's howl in this song, thanks to Eric Clapton. It's blues-y, it's heartbreaking, and yet, if I look at both sides, from the singer's perspective and from the woman's perspective as the subject of this song, I kinda have these mixed feelings.

From the woman's perspective, it's a feel-good song, since the singer is a man and the song is about a man who's regretting stuffs and admitting his loss. But from the singer's perspective who actually suffers the pain, it really looks like it's painful and so I can sympathize... I can feel both sides is all I'm saying.

In here, I watched the live performance of this song on Youtube, and there was this girl in the video who shed a tear in the middle of the song. It just triggered me to wanna cry too.

I mean, was it not enough that this song is already intense as it is, that they must insert a cut of a girl crying? Dammit, sis. I feel you.

Heartbreak songs... there are a lot, out there. But when it comes to heartbreak songs that are also intense (please double-underline the word intense there), this one is IT!

My Opinion towards --> Coffee Prince

This is my appreciation blog post towards the Korean TV series titled Coffee Prince (2007).

Opening scene -- ready to rumble.

Wuih...

As I noticed, pas dia lari larinya kayak cewek. Hahaha...

Choi Han Kyul dan Go Eun Chan (kiri) -- ganteng nyet
Go Eun Chan. Not the obvious "manly" ganteng kayak

Ini adegan favorit gw pas Go Eun Chan memamerkan
kebiasaannya niup-niup rambut sendiri.
FYI, it's
actually in slow motion, but you can't see that.

It's the hair... It's definitely the hair--the key
that made her boyish look.

Most applauded performance by Yoon Eun Hye: when she
gave piggyback ride to
Gong Yoo (Choi Han Kyul).
Gokil... Seberapa berat tuh?

God... Korsel bener-bener maju ya dalam hal penyutradaraan dan TV production, ga kalah ama serial-serial drama bikinan Amrik. 4.5 out of 5 for Coffee Prince.

Understanding is what keeps us cool about it.

Person A is a pregnant woman,
and the father of the child is Person B.
During her pregnancy, Person A gets so big and large,
but still, in amazement, Person B says...

Person B: "You look great... by the way."

Person A: "What you see is the manifestation of your own virility,
which fills you with a sense of pride and power."

Like, seriously, it breaks my heart. When you analyze everything, you'll realize that it all comes down to nothing. Because then, there will be reasons for everything.

Something like,

"Why did you help this person? Because you could empathize with his or her situation? Or maybe because you had experienced the same thing, and you knew how suck that is. Then... you wanna save people. You wanna be a hero."

Or something like,

A: "You're funny. (I like it.)"

B: "Really? You like me because I'm funny or because you know that I can always entertain you through my jokes? Because it's a save bet that you won't feel bored or sad when you're with me?"

Something like that.

First, you thought it was special, but then you realized the fundamental reason, and oh! It's not so special now, is it?

I don't wanna say humans are selfish, because it's too strong for a word to be labeled to all of us; selfish is a label we use for people who really only think about themselves to extreme. But I guess it really is in our nature to consider ourselves first ahead of others.

Which, in the end it makes me think again. We analyze, we rationalize, we read people's action and words, but then we might not like what we see after we peel off the layers. Aigoo... When we analyze everything, it just ruins it.

Ambition Makes You Look Pretty Ugly

Walaupun statusnya udah sold out, kebetulan temen gw ada sisa 2 lembar tiket, jadilah gw disuruh jualin.

Nah, gw pikir asik kan, "Wih tiket sold out nih, ini pasti RARE!

Jiahahaha...

And at that time I thought it was quite easy.

RARE APAAANYAAA RARE JIDAT LU!

Cuman masalahnya "bye", or even any of that words in that sentence, ga ada yang diutarakan, jadi digantungin aja gitu gw. Ga di-reply lagi. Bangsat.

It's like, "DIEEE BITCHEEESSS!!!". And yes, we're the "bitches" referred.

Bangsat kan... Kalo gini ceritanya terancam gua... Terancam jual tiket seharga pas beli--ganti modal doang. Ya gimana yak... Kalo gw orang biasa-biasa aja sih ga masalah.

"Ahhh... Oke nih kalo gini", pikir gw.

Sialnya, gw ga inget kalo beberapa hari sebelumnya gw whining-whining ga jelas di Twitter soal susahnya jualan tiket. Aaaggghhh that is so embarrassing! Kalo calon customer gw baca kan ga enak.

Tapi untungnya in the end tiket gw laku kebeli sama buyer yang liat iklan gw dari modifikasi.com. Laku 500.000. Lumayan banget daripada tiketnya angus. Masih ada untung pula ahiahiahia... Jadi muka gw terselamatkan.

Udah gitu buyer gw orangnya kooperatif pula, syukur dah. Gw yang parno kalo tiba-tiba transaksinya di-cancel secara sepihak, bilang gini ke dia (paraphrased), "Oke karena udah deal, tiket saya saya hold buat Mba ya, jangan di-cancel ya. Mohon kerja samanya". Terus dia bilang, "You have my word". Jyahahaha gokil, udah kayak di pelem-pelem action.

Anyway, lesson learned dari pengalaman gw jualan tiket konser a.k.a. jadi e-calo, gw rangkum sebagai berikut:

Which might be simply wrong.)

3. Never underestimate the power of another forums beside Kaskus.

Pengennya untung gede-gede (ambisius), giliran ada opportunity di depan mata ga diambil, soalnya masih ngarep more and more (loba). Yaa hati-hati aja kalo ujungnya malah ga dapet apa-apa. Tehehehe... So, be wise about it.

That J.B. was a compliment, right?

So I came home from a salon a few days ago, with a new haircut, and then my brother commented,

"Kayak J.B.".

Justin Bieber. Faagghh I was aiming for Dolores!!

Or... You know, Michelle Williams in pixie.

Picture from : http://www.rightcelebrity.com/?p=8944

But it's okay. I can still pull off a Dolores, you know. But only when my hair is wet with water. And then I go shake it and say "o-eeh oeeh ohee oh eehh".

That's right. But just to be clear, I asked the hairstylist for a pixie haircut, but he didn't know what it is. So it's actually pretty good that he managed to get me close to anything like it.

Modern Day "Gender Equality"

Since yesterday, I've been trying to recall Dustin Hoffman's character's name where in one of his films he played a man who pretended to be a woman. I tried to remember his character's name in that film, but apparently, it's actually the TITLE of the film that I needed. Not the name of his character, not "Michael", not "Dorothy", it's "Tootsie" that I've been looking for.

I needed the word "Tootsie" to pop up once again in my head.

Why? Here's why: There is a comedy gem, somewhere stored in my memory bank, that I couldn't withdraw, without the word "Tootsie" in my memory.

And now that I've found it, the memory deposit box is unlocked, baby! Here comes the gem!

HIL-FUCKING-A-RIOUS.

It's the same wavy hair,
the same (manly) clothes, even the shoes,
the same loose-fitting, baggy attire,
the similar walk,
same build, same height (she's only 2 cm shorter than he is).

It's everything Dustin Hoffman was when he was in Tootsie. I mean, when he was playing as the male character, not the female one.

And when Frank Rossitano uttered the word TOOTSIE, I couldn't help but laugh out loud. Huahahah!!! It was spot on!

Now THAT was one of the gems presented by 30 Rock.

No One is Paying Me

I even said that out loud.

You know, like Volvo owns the word "safety"! Makanya ketika pertanyaan di iklan tersebut muncul, so I was thinking about... *POP!!* Head & Shoulders.

Jadi pas gw liat iklan ini, I was thinking, "Well this doesn't feel like one of Clear's ads."

Hahahah it was almost like a joke.

I'm actually using it.

Kinda subjective, I know. Maybe subconsciously I WANT what I have to be "the best". I want what I have to "WIN". Which is perfectly understandable, if you ask me. And that's why I answered: "Head and Shoulders".

To Partly Lift the Burden

A perfectionist came to realization one day, that it was okay not to be flawless in creating or making something.

A product, or a creation doesn't have to be perfect for two reasons.

The first reason is because a product doesn't have to be "impervious", as long as it is "strong". By definition, something that's impervious is something that's impenetrable, cannot be penetrated. On the contrary, something that is strong can be penetrated, or damaged, or disturbed, but still managed to survive.

Using that analogy, in product creation, or art creation, or any kind of creation, an impervious creation is equal to a "perfect" creation: the ones where all aspects have been considered, all scenarios have been foreseen, problems that might occur have been tackled so they won't have to occur, and all else.

But a strong creation doesn't have to be all that. Yes it may have flaws here and there, but if it's good enough, the flaws should be tolerable and we can live with that. Creating a strong product means creating product that has surpassed a certain point of standards, but deciding not to go toward perfection in order to relieve the pressure, and accepting reality that after all we're human. We're bound to make it imperfect.

The second reason why a creation doesn't have to be perfect is because by not obsessing over perfection--a "10 out of 10" product--we get to create more, we get to be more "productive". Yes, probably we can obsess over one product and make it our masterpiece of work, but due to the time and energy we would consume, we'd probably only make one kind of thing in a long time.

But if we're okay and settled at "8 out of 10" or "9 out of 10" creations, we probably can move on to the next creation earlier, faster, sooner. Thus, we create more in variety, and be more productive.

At the end, it is not about avoiding perfections, but rather, it's about allowing ourselves for imperfections if they have to occur.

*P.S.: The comparison between "impervious" and "strong", and how those terms
were put here, were borrowed from one of popular TV Shows from America.*

The ocean forces us to sleep, but not to dream.

I'm gonna make a small, short post about a beach. Or, ocean. Or sea, you know what I'm saying? Okay, here it is. Beach...

Jennifer Lindley in Dawson's Creek once said, "I want you to spend a lot of time at the ocean, because the ocean forces you to dream."

So I believed what she said, because TV show's wisdom is cool. I mean, heck, I love sea anyway, so yeah I thought there's no harm in taking her words in.

But here's the thing, see, when I spent some time at the ocean recently, I tried to use that opportunity to prove whether or not Jen's wisdom was really true and applicable for me.

Well, apparently it wasn't. Spending some time at the ocean did not force me to dream. It made me relax alright, but no inspiration whatsoever coming through my mind. It did not light up or stimulate my brain, and I think my brain also took a break as I took a break and chilled by the beach. *Heeellooo... It was breezy~*

Maybe what Jen missed was this: what forces us to dream isn't spending some time at the ocean, it also isn't the ocean itself, instead, it's the friends we have that forces us to dream. I mean, when Jen was spending time at the ocean, she was always with her friends, right?

I watched Dawson's Creek (up to season four), and I don't think I can recall a scene where Jen was sitting all alone by the beach. All I remember is Jen at the beach, with her friends (you know, the gang; Dawson, Joey, Pacey, Jack).

So the keyword here in forcing one to dream is not the ocean, but rather, it's the friends one has.
It just so happened that this group of friends - the Dawson gang - often hung out and lived near the ocean.

I remember when I was with my friends, despite where we were and where our location was, when I was with my friends, that's when the situation forced me to dream. Hey, you know what Scorpions says, "Take me to the magic of the moment, On a glory night, Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams, With you and me." That's right, it's the dreams we share among us that forces us to dream.

Well, maybe the ocean thingy helps a little in forcing one to dream.

But anyway, I think the ocean's role in our life is that it's best for relaxation, tranquillity, peace, and all sorts of feeling.
It's a good therapy to ease anxiety. Very peaceful, very blissful.

Officially Member of Team Sacrifice

Gw punya hobi baru... Hobinya asik. Komunitasnya juga asik. Orang-orangnya menyenangkan, ramah, dan rame.

I think we are all very passionate about it--about our hobby.

And I think that's why I am loving it.

Uh yeah. Dan gw berpikir untuk menyeriuskan hobi ini. Somehow, someway.

Oh iya, btw, hobinya mengenai audio, dan penggemarnya disebut "audiophile".

Maybe, maybe, I won't really give a shit about all these audio stuffs, if it wasn't because of the fact that I love music. But since I love music, too, well then it's only natural that audio becomes something that matters as well.

Eh... tapi gw mah masih newbie. Levelnya masih yang praktis-praktis portable aja. Nyahahaha...

Anyway, gw baru beli earphone.

So, gw putuskan untuk beli earphone, mereknya Blue Ever Blue. Agak random ga sih?

*Ciyahhh... Berasa oke ga tu gua? Fufufu...*

Ya udah, 20-an dollar kan? "I'd give it a shot", gw pikir. Sekalian coba-coba jadi Team Sacrifice, alias "team menumbalkan diri", kalo ternyata barangnya oke, gw bisa recommend ke orang, kalo barangnya ga oke, gw bisa merugi sambil memperingatkan orang untuk ga usah beli tuh barang.

Alright. Wujudnya kayak gini nih, Blue Ever Blue seri 328R alias "The Black":

Picture from : http://blueeverblue.com

Picture from : http://biolinks.webstorepowered.com

Out of the box impression:

-Suaranya jernih.
-Treble ciiss... ciiss... renyah.
-The bass? Are you kidding? The bass is decent!
Ciaelaah... *Udah gw tes pake Apparat.*

And of course it is not a perfect product, so now... the cons:

Kayak earphone yang dijual di pinggir stasiun, if you know what I mean.

But, so far gw cukup puas lho, and again, it's only a first impression fresh out of the box. Belom di burn-in. So now... Let's burn this baby!!!

Of course, I do not mean it literally.

Sekilas "How to Get to Ujung Genteng"

Caelah...

Here we go, sekilas "How to Get to Ujung Genteng":

Worth it ngga tuh kira-kira untuk disamperin? Ya lu putuskan aja sendiri ya.

Kalo rejeki lo lebih, mendingan naik helikopter deh. Di Villa Amanda Ratu udah disediain helipad nya tuh. Hahahaha... *I'm serious*

Kedua, bawa makanan perbekalan yang sebanyak-banyaknya. It's sembilan jam, men. Udah gitu lo bakal ngelewatin gunung, naik gunung, turun gunung, sering kali lo ngga nemu rumah makan atau Alfa Mart untuk beli jajan, secara di kanan kiri lo udah kayak hutan suasananya.

Ketiga, sebaiknya lo pergi berangkat dari Jakarta pagi-pagi, jadi supaya sebelom malem menjelang lo udah nyampe Ujung Genteng. Pas gw kemaren, gw berangkat jam 1 siang, beuh... Jadinya gw musti ngelewatin gunung, jalan ancur-ancuran, dan jurang di sebelah gw sambil gelap-gelapan. Sucks.

Soal perjalanan udah, kemudian soal penginapan. Basically lo punya dua pilihan di sini. Lo mau yang deket pantai apa yang deket Tanah Lot? Kalo Villa Amanda Ratu itu lokasinya nyatu sama Tanah Lot. Jadi tinggal jalan kaki dah nyampe. Tapi ke pantainya lumayan jauh, sejam lah pake mobil.

Pokoknya lo tanya aja, "Tempat pelepasan penyu pas sunset tuh dimana?" And you're good to go.

Kira-kira itulah sedikit tips dari gue. As the last piece of my advice, jangan lupa makan seafood ya di sana~ It's YUMMM.

What's so special about it?

Nih ya, yang spesial pertama, pantainya. Pantainya bersih bok... Pasir putih. No garbage. No tai anjing. Pantainya pun sepi.

Wew... I was afraid I was gonna crush it 'cause I kinda sorta held it too tightly. So, kendorin dikit.

Q: Kenapa musti dilepas sih penyunya? Kan kasian masih baby~

A: Justru dilepas pas masih baby biar dia terbiasa mandiri dari kecil. Cari makan di laut sendiri, survive sendiri. Kalo dilepas pas penyu udah gedean dan selama ini diasuh sama manusia, nanti penyunya jadi manja pas dilepas di laut beneran.

Q: Terus kenapa di lepas pas sore hari sih?

A: Ngga tau.

Oh well.

Jadi ceritanya pas pagi-pagi menjelang sunrise gitu, gw ngincer pemandangan sunrise kan. Pergi lah gw ke luar villa. Pas lagi jalan, gw terima SMS dari ade gw. "Cepetan ke sini, bawa SLR sekalian. Sunrise nya mantep." (kurang lebih gitu isinya).

Gw yang emang udah di jalan jadi panik dong, "Omaygat, sunrise nya udah mulai nih? Gimana kalo gw telat? Ntar sunrise nya keburu gone~".

LAUT.

*GASP. GASP.* How... How the hell? Bagaimana ceritanya ada laut di sini?

The most beautiful surprise.

So EPIC. DRAMATIC. CLIMACTIC. Pas banget lagi diiringin Hoppipolla, klimaks. Seklimaks ending Cruel Intentions ketika Kathryn Merteuil ngebuka pintu gereja dan Bitter Sweet Symphony serentak menghentak. Aaah... ^-^

Yaaaa...

Hahahaha...
Btw, gw ngasal, gw belom pernah ke Belanda kok.

Enak banget nongkrong di sini... Sambil dengerin musik juga the best. Recommended artists to listen to: Sigur Ros, Chicane, Bryan Adams, Glenn Fredly, and of course, your own personal favorites might suit the mood.

Alright... Enough with the story. Sekarang saatnya bernarsis-narsis ria! Muahahaha...

Madagascar!! Yombeeee~~
Gw ga ngerti kenapa, tapi kata ade gw mirip Madagascar?

I just can't do it, you know.

Where am I? I'm at the villa.

"IF YOU CALL MY NAME, I WILL TURN MY HEAD LIKE THIS!"
Huahahahaha... Udah cocok ngga nih jadi model?

Model-model iklan sendal Akugiles.

Dammit! Cecunguk-cecunguk kecil ini lebih tinggi dari gue!

Okayyy~ This is the end of my holiday report. Wait for the next post, for I will give some useful tips on how to get to Ujung Genteng and enjoy your holiday there. Signing out! Ciao!

A Lodestone Mine

"GET OUTTA THERE!! GET OUTTA THERE!!
TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES!"

By then, I already knew I was contaminated.

"DON'T BREATHE IT!"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN DON'T BREATHE IT?!
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO LIVE?"

In my dream world, Science, Religion, and Government went side by side.

When someone is contaminated, it means it's their mistake. Normally, you shouldn't get contaminated. If you do, it's either you break something, and then get contaminated, or you go somewhere you don't belong, and then get contaminated.

To make up for this so-called mistake you make, and to redeem yourself, you must make a promise to God. If you want to live, if you want to totally get rid of the contamination, you must make a promise... to God. You promise that you will do this... or that you will do that.

The thing is, you don't make the promise, you don't make the call--The Government did it for you. The Government decide what promise or promises you have got to fulfill or keep. The Government make contact with God.

What the??? Have I been watching too much film? Television? Read too much utopian/dystopian-themed books? Naaah...

Is this my inner hope for a utopian world? Wew, I hope not.

I Humbly Declare This as Awesome Tips - - 01

How to Enjoy Going to the Cinema--Alone:

1. Wear shorts, t-shirts, and sandals.

2. Be casual. Be cool. Chillax... Yeah... Like you don't give a fuck.

3. Buy popcorn and drinks.

4. Buy the ticket at the last minutes, 5 to 10 minutes before the film begins.

5. Make sure the studio barely has any viewers in it. Either you choose the sucky flopped film, or you choose the show time that is unfavorable for most people.

6. Pick your favorite seat. Front, back, middle, corner, you name it.

7. Put your popcorn and drinks next to your seat, assuming no one's taking the seat since the studio is fairly empty.

8. Enjoy your private cinema!

The Pioneers Make Bold Moves

This needs to be passed around. Check it, 10 innovative business models that happen to be working well in the digital era, that is, using the role of Internet.

http://techcrunch.com/2011/01/07/10-business-models-that-rocked-2010/

It's on slides, so you better visit the link if you want to see it.

Anyway, I personally like Quirky the most. If you're into innovation, creation, or invention, I think you'll like Quirky, too. So basically, with Quirky, you just offer up ideas (but you gotta pay $10), and people at Quirky will develop it into a product. Plus, with that 10 bucks you get feedback from community regarding your idea.

While Groupon... Wow... Groupon amazes me. It offers one deal, in one day, in one city. That's scary. For the customers, it will be a "now or never" dilemma. Unfortunately, though, right now this business model has been copied by many others.

Now, this one here, is really worth mentioning. It's Kickstarter. Kickstarter will indirectly give funds to people who needs funding for their projects. For example, you wanna record a music, of course you need some money to make it happen, right? Kickstarter will be the medium for you to find 'backers', the people who will then fund your project.

In general I think it's like pitching an idea to venture capitalist or angel investor. But heck, wouldn't it be simpler to pitch an idea online than having to come and do it in front of their presence? Yeah... I thought so.

So that's about it now. There are more of interesting websites such as those I mentioned earlier if you follow the link I posted above.

Ahh... Innovation just gets more and more interesting, doesn't it? *Slurrrrpppp*

A Little Something from 3 Years Ago

I remember that time. It was an English assignment, just like in any other week; those weeks where we were given assignments to write essays. One time, I handed in my essay to my tutor. And my tutor said to me that it's really good. Usually I never got praise from her, usually my essays were just decent, sometimes even lacking, but most of the time they were unnoticed. But not that one time. That one time she praised me. And after she praised me, I replied to her, "I made this from xxxx to xxxx, Mam." I can't remember the words exactly, but it was meant that I made the essay for a really, really long time, and implicitly telling that I put a lot of effort, energy and time to it.

Bottom line, I can make a nice writing if I am given enough, or even better, unlimited time. Can't hurry a masterpiece. (LOL, this is true but somehow disgusting.) And one more thing, even if I did make a nice writing, there really is nothing to feel special about, since I probably put a lot of effort and time on that. If I do that, if you do that, or if anyone else does that, it is highly likely that we end up making a nice piece of writing. So it's nothing extraordinary, really. It's not superhuman power. It's just... serious effort that pays off in the end.

And at the end of this post, it got me thinking, "is the nice piece of writing really worth my time?" Considering I spent hours and hours and even days just for that--pride and praise.

The Union of Maths and Music

Okay, if I were asked to mention my favourite albums, one of my answers would be OK Computer by Radiohead.

I know it's not that much of a surprise, many people looove this album already, but yes, it really is magical. Almost every song in this album is good. But probably though, I'm not so keen on Fitter Happier and Lucky. But I don't really consider Fitter Happier as a song, so it's just Lucky for me. Pun intended.

Anyway, I hope you understand a little bit about maths, because now I'm gonna bring an analogy of Venn diagram to explain my adoration towards this album. Okay? Here we go...

If, The Bends and Pablo Honey were the elements of set "A",

and defining that set "A" as the circle of Radiohead's mainstream, cheesy, appeal-to-the-mass albums,

and if, Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief were the elements of set "B",

and defining that set "B" as the circle of Radiohead's sophisticated, heavier, electronic-y albums,

and if, the two sets of "A" and "B" were united as a union, then what lies in the intersection is OK Computer. Because it belongs to both world.

See? That's how good OK Computer is :) It's heavy but not that heavy, the mainstream can enjoy it but also appears to be sophisticated, and it's also electronic-y. Ehehehehe...

Now if you ask me, "Where are In Rainbows and The King of Limbs in that diagram?" I don't know... I just feel they're on a different world already. If anything, they should be marked as set "C", a little further away but still can make a union with set "B".

Oh SNAP! The shrink refuses to help.

Saroyan: What I need is your advice on how to tell Michelle that she has the option of going to one of the best universities in the world.

Dr. Sweets: Unfairly and illegitimately.

Saroyan: I'd rather not put it to her that way.

Dr. Sweets: I can't help you.

Saroyan: Why not? Some sort of professional code of ethics?

Dr. Sweets: No, my own personal code of ethics.

Oghhh... That is soooo cool. Gotta have the integrity, my friend.

Sometimes the professional code of ethics is just not enough that you need to create your own personal code of ethics.

Holy epicness, The Jeffster!

Ahahahahaha... Shit I love it, the way they beat Coldplay and Snow Patrol to pieces.

Don't get me wrong. I, too, listen to some of Snow Patrol and Coldplay. But hey, I just love these boys for re-glorifying the 80's and 70's music :))

My Opinion towards --> these four French films.

So the French Film Festival is now officially over in Jakarta, marked by the screening of "Of Gods and Men" last Sunday evening.

While it was still running, I managed to watch four films out of that plenty choices offered by the festival. And what are those four films? Here they are...

"Bank Error in Your Favor" (About two men who wanted to start a restaurant business but did not have enough money and couldn't get any loan.)

I watched it a week ago, obviously I've forgotten a lot about it now, so I've got nothing much to say.

But I do remember it being really funny in one scene, where the family experienced an awkward situation as they were shocked by the revelation that their teenage daughter was having romantic relationship with someone old, older than them. And I think that's that, the only part worth remembering.

However, right after watching the film I made a note to rate this film. But it was just the rating, sadly without any explanation. Based on my notes, I gave this film a 3/5.

"Second Chance" (About a guy that brings bad luck to the people around him, especially the ones he loves.)

Second Chance is one of that films that contain A LOT of funny moments, hilarious scenes, from the beginning till the middle of it. But then by the time real conflict starts to emerge, the mood of the film changes from exciting to flat. And you're just like, "Okay... Allright..." 'Cause without the laughter it's just an 'okay'; it's nothing bad, but nothing impressive either.

Typical romantic comedy, I mean. But this one is still good, 'cause sometimes there are romantic comedies that even failed at being funny, while at the same time, they also offered nothing impressive. In the end, Second Chance deserves quite a good grade for being entertaining and hilarious. 3.5/5.

"With Love from the Age of Reason" (About a tough, mature, successful woman who gets distracted by letters she received from a 7-year-old.)

What I like about this film, is that it is heartwarming and inspiring. It basically tells us to slow down with our life and take a look back for a while, for things that matters to us, or at least, things that used to matter to us.

Sophie Marceau as the leading actress did great in this film. That one part when she decided to dig the well, seemed like Lara Croft combined with She-Hulk stuff there. Yeah! She was mad!!! Tough stuff.

Anyway, that little kid that played the 7-year-old is adorable, and the expression when in one scene she appeared on the mirror was priceless. It's like she was almost expressionless, flat... but it didn't bother me. It's good that it was like that.

However, what bothers me is the fact that the film likes to change its dialogue from French to English to French to English... That's distracting. And there are things I still don't understand, like, what does "Je t'aime" mean on that letter? And what did the boy and the dad see in that well? I don't like it when I don't quite get it. It's forcing me to guess. All in all, With Love from the Age of Reason gets 3.6/5.

"All that Glitters" (About two best friends, faking and masking their poor lives to impress the people from the upper social class.)

All that Glitters is this kind of film that is so, so good in the beginning, that you dare to jump into conclusion that you fucking love the film, while, really, you've only been watching it for ten minutes or so. Yup, it's one of those films. *Don't tell me you don't have that kind of film in your life.*

The problem with this kind of film is, usually after that glorious beginning, the film couldn't maintain its glory throughout the entire film. I loved the beginning of this film so much, I expected the film to keep the mood exciting like that, even when conflict had to arise. But that's too much of an expectation, no? Not every film can pull that off. So there you go, the sense of being pulled down to the ground after being flown to the sky.

Nonetheless, this film is very funny and it has a good drama. I'm very simple when it comes to seeking satisfaction in a drama. All I need is a good screaming, and shouting, and crying... Voilà! It's a good drama. Only the act has to be superbly convincing, otherwise, it'll be a crap 'cause I don't believe the genuine of the emotion.

"Look at me... Look at me! I'll die before I talk to you again." [teary eyed]

(It is much cooler in French, of course, but I couldn't find the dialogue on the internet, so...)

Excellent acting by both Leïla Bekhti and Géraldine Nakache as the leading actresses. And plus I have to admit my admiration for Géraldine Nakache since she is also the co-writer and the co-director of the film. Young woman with such accomplishment? I need as much inspiration as I can get.

For being my favorite in the first ten minutes-ish, for being hilarious, for the excellent acting by all of the cast, and for the inspiration it brings, All that Glitters gets 4/5.

So that's it. The four films I watched in this year's festival. Well, actually I also wanted to watch "Heartbreaker", "Bacon on the Side", and "Hands Up", but unfortunately for some reasons it just didn't happen. But, you know, I'll find a way to catch up. You know what I mean? Ahiahihahaihaiha... ;D

But I Can't Promise You Forever

You're going outside... to live the night.

To be in the dark...

To be away from the light.

Get down and sit.

To feel the greasy grass on your feet.

Cut out a piece of your heart,

put it in a jar,

lay the love and desire,

and the fire shall linger.

This is nothing original. Just an interpretation.

Suede for Blackberry's Live n Rockin' Concert

Let's cut to the chase. Everyone knows what Blackberry's Live n Rockin' Concert is. Well at least, everyone within my age range that lives not just in real life but also in cyber-life. So, no more explanation should be necessary.

As you know, Blackberry's Live n Rockin' Concert, or should I say, "BB Live" for short, contained four different musicians from different musical genres. The line-up was quite attractive with 2PM from K-pop genre, Taio Cruz represented electropop, Shontelle from R&B, and Suede was britpop. It was a musical feast that broke all the barrier of genres and united all of us music lovers.

As one of the many, many fans of britpop music, of course I wanted to see Suede's live performance. Especially considering the fact that I've never seen one even though they've been to Indonesia before, in 2003.

So, after a series of luck that led me to a free ticket, I went to the concert with my friends. My sole objective was of course to witness Suede's performance, while my friends had their own favorite artists to see.

At around 10 PM, Suede finally appeared on stage as scheduled for the event. I must say the promoter and event organizer did a good job in term of punctuality, kudos to Ismaya Live.

That night, Suede opened with... This Hollywood Life, of which I don't know at all since I only know some of their songs, especially the ones that made to single. Fortunately, their third song was my favorite and it's called Trash. It's like, really really my favorite. So I sang along with Brett Anderson the vocalist and all the audience there.

...supposed to be super fun, right? But not really. Because I felt something was kinda messy on stage. Was that the guitar or the drum's beat that wasn't quite right, I don't know.

What made me more disappointed was that I felt the tempo of the songs they played that night was kinda too fast compared to the songs we listen on the records. It was like, "What happened, Suede? Are you chasing a flight in an hour or what?". So the songs lacked solemnity, and it felt to me that they were played rather poorly.

The whole night, Suede brought us 17 songs, plus 2 encore songs. Among those 19, Suede brought 9 songs that I expected to be there. Good enough. Sadly, with such fast-paced performance, faster than it should be, I couldn't really enjoy the songs to its maximum potential.

I wonder why the performance wasn't top-notch that night. It could be because they're an "old" band, so they're not on their top performance anymore. Or maybe because that night was their second gig in Jakarta, hence lacking the excitement of something fresh. Or it could be both.

Apart from that, however, I think Brett's performance was allright, he was quite attractive on stage. And I particularly noticed Richard Oakes' fiery performance. Wow. He's cool. *Yeah, what's not cool if you're the lead guitarist and the co-writer of songs that made it to the "top ten" hits? It's bound to be cool.*

Afterward, the band closed the night with Saturday Night. Aah... another favorite of mine. A Saturday Night played on a Saturday night. What more could you ask for? Since it's such a romantic slow song, all the audience put their hands in the air and started waving throughout the songs.

People singing along, and me and some random guy next to me sang the song wholeheartedly. Wow. Random awkward moment. Just kidding. It was nice to know that you're not alone feeling all emotional because of one song. Thank God, in this very last song by the band, they performed it super well and it was super enjoyable.

All in all, this was clearly not the best concert I've attended, but it was okay. I appreciate a good ending, so yeah, it made me happy. Oh yeah, and I got the ticket for free. Gotta thank the Blackberry for making it happen. Cheers!

Nah, gini, you all know what happened and why this post must be postponed by me. *If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about, go see some older post in this blog, hope it makes sense.*

So, setelah laptop yang rusak gw servis, install ulang segala macem, data-data di-backup, akhirnya laptop gw terselamatkan...

Here we go!

Pulau Bengkalis di malam hari, di Taman Kota Andam Dewi.

Air mancur taman kota, yang selalu ramai dikunjungi massa.

Airnya ngga berubah, cahaya lampu yang berubah-ubah.

Yang ini favorit gw... Keren kan?
I'm gonna name it: "A Gemini Pudding". Hell yeah!

I gotta tell you, my friend. Surprisingly, this small, quiet, underdeveloped island is not so dull after all. See? With the ever-changing color fountain as a happening place for the young to gather, I think it's fun! Especially if you're here for a short period of time. I suggest a two or three days vacation would be the best duration, as there is not much to see or do anyway.

Pekanbaru - Bengkalis (via speedboat):

1. Dari Pekanbaru lo berangkat menuju Pelabuhan Sungai Duku. Lokasinya ga jauh kok.

So don't you miss it.

5. Kapal berangkat, melewati Sungai Siak, setelah perjalanan kira-kira 2,5 jam, sampe deh di Pelabuhan Bandar Sri Laksamana, Bengkalis.

Bandar Sri Laksamana -- A decent port.

Tinggal dibalik aja step-stepnya, oke?

Daaan dengan berakhirnya postingan Bengkalis Island, berarti berakhir juga postingan edisi "Tour de Riau 2011". See you in the next holiday report. Amen!

I Wanna Know - - 01

Just a thought.

*berasa panggung musikal kali*

Intinya, kenapa? This far, I see no reason why we shouldn't. And by "we" I mean women.

I'd be very grateful.

Anyway, gw pengen deh nyobain membangun rumah... Atau bangunan gitu kek... Just for fun! Anak arsitektur ada yang butuh bantuan? Ridwan Kamil, you need an extra set of hands? Anyone got a job offering? Like, "Hey, wanna help me build a house? The pay is xxx rupiahs per day." Put your ads in here, pal!

Fufufu...
